Even better would be a Transfer Lebensohl bid of 3D, after which North would bid 4H, and East would be on lead. Of course, that wouldn’t allow South to show off his declarer skills by executing the beautiful end play, which is worth it’s weight in gold.

Hi Matt,

Poor East would then think he might be endplayed at T1; a trump is safe as the cards lie but might be massacring partner’s HJxxx or similar.

Hi Matt & Iain,

Oh yes, the famous TL (Transfer Lebensohl, courtesy of Matt) appears, breathtaking as it might be, almost destroying safe leads by their opponents (only1 out of 13 and that one, as Iain pointed out, also often dangerous).

All this bidding science may ultimately make bridge an easy game, but I hope I live to see it, which if available, might enable someone to live 969 years, like Methuselah.

However, that chance, plus that result, may not be worth holding one’s breath, waiting for it to happen, but thanks to Matt for showing the way, in case it does.
