Hi Dear Mr Wolff
Declarer played very well. F M Ford’s quote which is full of despair certainly does not apply to him but By and large , applies to the world today. Wish situation improves shortly.
And perhaps the big irony is, if some south elected to bid ( but certainly there may not be many of them) 3 NT, it is on ice.
Regards
Hi AVRR,
Yes, FM Ford’s poignant quote does, with the world’s incredible problems, (if you’ll excuse the expression), likely following suit.
Add to that, the coming on of this mysterious unknown virus, (no specific cure yet) together with both the world’s politics (jockeying for supremacy, at least between China and the USA) and the beyond horrible internal conflict in the USA between the two major political parties (outwardly, at least it seems), on this, a Presidential election year, takes my beloved appreciation (up to now) of my home country into a deserved doubtful zone to which I am becoming ashamed.
The ravishing damage from the new virus almost appears to me to be significantly exacerbated (economically and medically) by politics rather than nature, literally leading some idiots to think about putting a money value on the worth of a human life.
At least to me, this is not the America I have come to love and respect, leaving me with, as you so properly mentioned, Mr. Ford’s despair, as appropriate as night and day.
Returning to the much more uplifting subject of good bridge, yes, the specific layout of today’s 52 cards does make 3NT, played my South, the contract of choice, but like, which often occurs, how to get there is well nigh impossible, not to mention impractical.
However, thanks for your post. It was well conceived, to the point, and, at least to me, worth comparing.
Thanks and let us earnestly hope that this is a transient stage and very soon we will have the Demon under control and total normalcy restored and also wish that the present situation is not exploited for selfish goals by anyone
Regards
HI AVRR,
AMEN!
Hi Bobby, AVRR,
I’ll double and redouble those last two comments! Whether total normalcy returns is another matter; I think we’ll be much more cautious about mass travel in future and also keep bats at arms length. I remember the Hong Kong flu’ in 1968 which killed 80,000 people in this country. Hopefully this won’t be as bad.
regards,
Iain
Hi Iain,
Maybe what is happening is merely nature rising up and saying to all the world, “living doesn’t, shouldn’t and never will, supply anyone with a free lunch”!
