HI Bobby,

If spades are 2-0 is it better for South to play Dax or to draw the second trump before playing on D (at single dummy)? If D are 4-2 south is probably fine regardless but DAx loses after if West has 1D and 2S. Also; South should cash CA early if trumps are 1-1 as West may have D KQxxx or DK10xxx and be endplayed

Regards,

Iain

Hi Iain,

Yes, you are ultra qualified as a bona fide expert on single dummy play, let alone double dummy, as your above analysis has proven.

However, what if West had a singleton club (East had the other 8, but also held the singleton heart king, zero spades and 4 small diamonds).

My greatest fear was that of insulting Dame Foirtune and allow that emotional lady to call the shots. Especially for, me since I have had close to eighty years of bridge experience and she has not yet used an opportunity to show
her brutal side. Wish you the same, but don’t
hold your breath, expecting it not to happen.
