HI Bobby,
With regard to Max Power’s query, it sounds like he should ask partner to adopt KISS (Keep it Simple Silly is a politer than usual version). Alternatively point out that if it is SOS based on partner distrusting MP’s declarer play, it won’t work – the opener will still probably play the hand in the rescue spot.
Regards
Iain
Also regarding Max Power’s query, and Iain’s KISS comment.
My own KISS approach: Since 2HX is a game contract, the Redouble says “My hand has increased in value to beyond what I’ve previously shown. The 2HX game was a slam dunk; so 2HXX is better. But if you later want / have to consider defending, I have a good Spade holding behind the Doubler.”
Hi Iain & Clarksburg,
My retort could be KISE (keep it simple, Einstein)
meaning the redouble should always be, a simple
maximum (8+-10-) and a balanced hand, allowing partner, the opener to use his judgment, if an when it goes Pass, Pass, back to the doubler, then pass by the redoubler should be forcing on the opener to either make a penalty double, (QJ10, Axxxx, KQ10, Qx) or, if not, bid on, usually 3 hearts, but almost never game with possibly A, AJxxxx, Axx, xxx an exception.
If that happens, with down one the result, no one is allowed to mention where he or she got his advice.
Supplementary:
If the Pair were playing 2/1 and Forcing 1NT, so the 1S>2S constructive raise already shows 8-10, what would the redouble then mean? Or would it simply make no sense to make such a call?
Thanks
Hi Clarksburg,
No, it would still be a balanced maximum, but without a trump stack against whatever the original 2nd seat reopening doubler might bid.
However the redoubler is saying (in bridge code) “this is our hand partner and they are trying to usurp our advantage”. At least to me, if I would pretend to know it all (which I hope I do not, since I don’t), really be saying is that all players, great and small, should realize that bridge logic is substantiially attached to life’s judgment so when partner hurls a new subject bid at you, one’s experience should cause that partnership to stay fully attached to its meaning.
When that inspiration is complete, every player will move up one step in his bridge success. No more, NO LESS!, and either KISS or KISE will result in the same.
