Hi Dear Mr Wolff
Perhaps south is not entitled for any sympathy. The loser on loser play snipping communication between EW is essential. And in a lighter vein; had Mrs. Guggenheim been playing today’s hand, she would have counted her losers and found them to be three and she would have played four rounds of clubs discarding losing diamond and would have succeeded today ( the initial loser on loser play and the possibility that someone could have ruffed third club would naturally not occur to her)
Regards
P S : is it O K if I post the contents of your reply to yesterday’s query at bridgewinners.com ? The debate was long and heated and perhaps can be concluded with your wise comments

Hi AVRR,

Discounting Mrs. Guggenheim’s imaginative winning solution (West could possess the singleton king of diamonds as well as a doubleton) and although your comment resonated with real life among all levels of bridge play, a touch of humor, even if entirely manufactured, always, at least to me, appears to usually be totally appropriate.

At least today’s hand has a serious note of likely more loser on loser plays lurk, than thought to be, perhaps allowing a winning pause to occur more often, with all conscientious players.

Regarding an answer to your PS, the contents of what I write will never require an OK from me, for you or others to pass it on. However, in the distant past, when I wrote similar random opinions about varied bridge subjects on Bridgewinners, it seemed, at least to me, that others, disagreed, not because they actually felt that way, but only to be fashionable, not to mention somewhat argumentative, just for the sake of ego.

If true, this practice (often referred to as the Devil’s advocate) then often resulted in seemingly endless discussion, signifying nothing (or, at least, not much), but certainly not an improved mutual feeling, nor, at least to me, a desire to continue doing it.

However, that site likely welcomed that type of emotional behavior, since it probably results in more overall general interest, in spite of often a waste of profitable time, at least for some.

The above is not meant as criticism, only fact.

Hi Bobby,

A non-bridge related problem. I suspect Judy’s email account may have been hacked as I’ve just received an email purporting to be from her which doesn’t seem right. Can you contact me and I’ll send details.

Regards,

Iain

Hi Bobby, Judy, everyone else,

Just to confirm the above and there is definitely something odd happening. Judy would not send the sort of email I’ve received from what purports to be her account but somebody is trying a scam.

Can you contact AOL with immediate effect and I’ve forwarded the offending items to Bobby. Sorry for any embarrassment caused but this needs to be nipped in the bud pdq.

Regards,

Iain

Hi Iain,

Yes, in spades, Judy has had either her phone, her computer or both hacked, allowing some miscreant to run amok.

Thanks for reporting and yes we’ve heard from a dozen or so people just what poison he distributes.

The modern world is just wonderful, except for the many times it is the other extreme.

Sorry for your inconvenience and for your great help in giving us a chance to defend ourselves.

Best regards,

Bobby

Hi Bobby,

Glad I could help. Whether the police and AOL do anything is dubious but at least you can report it. I hope normality returns soon.

Regards,

Iain

Happy Anniversary to Judy and you.

AV, our host and Mrs. Guggenheim: Four rounds of clubs doesn’t work. On the fourth club, E ruffs with his 7, S discards a D, but W also discards a D. Now DA and another D uppercuts declarer. Of course, overruffing the 7 would be of no value either.

Hi David,

Good and not so.

Thanks and also from Mrs. Guggenheim who plans on sending her chauffeur for you to play with her in the next duplicate.

However, she has agreed to pay the entry fee, but, and, of course, get it back if you don’t win.

Good luck!
