If Soth leads a small diamond to the queen instead of running the D10 would West still get it right? After all, East’s D7 could be from J7 (assuming he echoes) while a small card might be from Jxx. West still did well to find the small heart play, though.

Hi Iain,
No doubt, a small diamond to the queen, instead of passing the ten might have led to a make. However, similar to the long ago, public relations commercial of “Ask the man who owns one” does little in earning solace for being unsuccessful.
The constant victor in so many of these difficult mind battles is the game itself, which does so much to provide legitimate intellectual stimulation.
