Hi Dear Mr Wolff
Perhaps I should have been playing six NT. West would have led a club and I would have chalked up twelve tricks without any sweat though bringing spade slam home definitely needed some thinking. Just idle musings in tune with today’s quote ” and building castles in Spain and France”

Hi AVRR,

Whether playing a slam in spades or (gasp) 6NT, declarer, while successful, should no doubt be thinking about “building castles in Spain and France” rather than the Law of Averages, who, will be waiting impatiently to get even with NS, ASAP.

And incidentally, if South while declaring 6NT,
gets a major suit lead, (West leading a diamond could almost never be justified, except, of course, this time), he will not be able to get a count on the hand before the miracle in clubs is known, causing another difficult guess in that same suit, to succeed.

Oh well, “nothing ventured, nothing gained”, but there needs to be some limit on luck and making this one, almost becomes beyond belief.
