Hi Dear Mr. Wolff
Well played hand by Lebel. After west has shown at least 5-5 in majors, the squeeze is the logical play and the only requirement is for west to have doubleton K of diamonds which is fair enough. However, just wondering, notwithstanding the solid club suit, had south elected to play the diamond slam in the 4-4 fit, it would have rolled home without any sweat. It would suffice to ruff one heart in hand and claim twelve tricks ( provided of course with the same condition: west holds doubleton diamond K), no squeeze is needed . In fact south goes down if he plays for squeeze as east’s nine of diamonds gets promoted . But clearly, if north were to be declarer, the diamond slam will not have any chance only on a spade lead while on any other lead it still makes.

Hi AVRR,

Thanks again for your role as not only able, if asked to serve in the kitchen, as chief cook, but also as needed in bridge, as bottle washer, cleaning up “how to” with other contracts and, of course, the best defenses to them.

As usual, the main line is important, but, for obvious purposes, the corollary side products provide the special talent which always allows for better understanding of the entire process.

Not to mention how your “help” put paid to Aldous Huxley’s poignant quote and restored “going forward”.
