The unusual 2NT often gets criticized for providing a road map, but here it sure looks like a good spot to use it. West has no way of knowing the powerhouse South holds not to mention the nice hand to his left. Kudos to South for making good use of the information provided, but do you agree that it was a good spot for that bid and just rotten luck for West?

Yes, there are many either or’s in bridge and playing certain conventions, like artificial take-outs, is just one of them.

Likely there is no intelligent way to discuss its specific value, (possibly by simulations) as against the degrees of help given to the hated opponents.

My guessed opinion, although subject to many intangibles (including caliber of the opposition, vulnerability and always psychology) is that I’d prefer taking the risk with my boots on (short for affirmative action by the conventioneer).

However, and whatever may be claimed by others, I do not think it worth the time taken to reach out for the answer, since I think it close to impossible to correctly answer, but would not relish having to contradict an otherwise intelligent stab.

And always remember the excellent play by today’s declarer, meaning just another hurdle to clear before deciding the answer you seek.

Especially so, when listening to the news of so much disagreement, discord turning into sheer hate, not to mention violence going on in my homeland. as well as the horrible pandemic which feels like really bad trump breaks waiting patiently in the wings.
