Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone, especially you and Judy.
Merry Christmas to everyone here and All The Best to you and Judy.
Hi Steve & Patrick,
Much thanks for your holiday wishes and may you both give and receive many successful squeezes from both your families and, of course, at the bridge table, for many years to come.
Hi everyone,
And if anyone on this cherished holiday still has both time and inclination to think about bridge, if someone would ask me to estimate the chances of both East and West making the required defensive plays they need to make, low in clubs at trick one for East followed by high in hearts when declarer first leads hearts to dummy I would say about 500 to 1 against, and yet both plays should logically (on the bidding and why a club lead) be chosen.
If bridge is not the greatest mind game ever, no one should even attempt to explain why not.
Now, with the parlay of finding a way to thoroughly stop all forms of cheating with our beloved game (I suggest much stronger penalties), and this world pandemic of Covid will finally abate, my time on earth will have a much happier ending.
Merry Xmas Bobby Wolff!
Hi again,
After due deliberation, I would like to better explain what I mean by stronger penalties.
The magnitude of when and where the cheating takes place (local club up through all qualifying events for World Championships to their conclusion, need to be individually considered as well as the heinousness of the transgression, complete with outside help or influence), similar to serious crimes against humanity and their specific implications in real life.
Therein, perhaps non-bridge legal scholars may begin to at least “feel” what we are trying to do and, most importantly, why we need to emphasize the necessity of getting it done and if not, chaos all the way up to our eventual extinction, as an intellectual sport of great renown.
Hi Lee,
Thank you, the same back to you, and although I have not had the privilege of knowing you personally, I do greatly appreciate you taking your time to post.
Obviously, all of us on this site would be
interested in your joining our worthwhile group, if and when, you ever felt the need to exchange ideas pertaining to what most, if not all of us think, is a glorious game.
Merry Christmas to all!
(BTW – I got my Christmas bridge present early this year! Back in August, one of my finesses worked! )
Hi Jim2,
Must have been a worrying anomaly in the space-time continuum – we should probably panic now!
Hi Lee,
One of the great things about this blog is how friendly it is. Even when my finger hitting submit overrides my brain (which is far too often) Bobby and my fellow bloggers let me down gently!
Regards,
Iain
Hi Jim2,
Your finesse working? Probably either the whole world giving up or the harrowing evil of Covid providing a different face.
Next bridge hand, hold off, if possible, winning the trick, until more is hopefully known.
Hi Lee,
Friendly, yes, but as far as anyone knows, and about Iain’s bridge brain, he is not nicknamed both Robin and/or Sparrow for nothing.
However he does have a beautiful and sensitive wife, just not one who has made great romantic decisions.
Instead truth, likely this site would have a difficult time surviving without him.
