Hi Bobby,

Is a trump lead any better here, although East should withhold the 10. Difficult for West to play the HHA on the 10, though – what if South had HKJ10xxx?

Regards,

Iain

Hi Bobby,

Is South’s hand strong enough for a 2S rebid?

Hi Iain,

Do not think so, since it seems to leave South scoring 4 heart tricks, 4 spade tricks and 2 clubs.

However, the intricate back and forth with various defenses involving club ruff(s) puts pause to my answer, but I do think declarer will ultimately score it up.

Finally, yes, I agree with you about the likelihood of West immediately rising with the ace of hearts, although it is certainly possible.

And, the thought of South reopening with 2 spades when East could easily hold 4 of them is somewhat boggling, but many very good players become known by their aggression.

Some becoming heroes but others always searching for new partners.

Hi Mircea,

Our last posts arrived at about the same time, but I did address (and agree) to your concern.

Hi Dear Mr Wolff
A deftly played hand needing lot of insight for the finesse of nine of clubs. As in the end in four card position in which west holds one trump and three clubs ( only one trump has been played till then) dummy A 9 of trumps and KJ clubs, east two trumps and two red cards. If west plays club, dummy wins , east ruffs but dummy ruffs East’s red suit return, draws trump and club is high.If west returns trump, dummy hops up A and neutralizes East’s trump by playing club. Had south not finessed nine, west can lead trump and if he plays A and high club, west’s club Ten is winner and south loses the contract. All due to the presence of ten of spades with east. Had dummy possessed that card, south doesn’t need the finesse of club nine.
Bridge is really fascinating

Hi AVRR,

And many of us, at least the ones who appreciate detailed and proven methods, will rejoice with your careful and no doubt accurate, description.

While the care you give your readers is not sought after by some (too tedious) the result for others, far outweighs not being available for everyone, especially players who love associating with the experts, on the way up the totem pole to more success in understanding different ways to skin the bridge animal.

Thanks for your effort, not to mention your always positive vibes, for the game we all love.
