Hi Everyone,
Seemingly, the European community might lend a tremendous opportunity to popularize our beloved game by discussing the role the WBF could play in allowing or not, Russian participation.
Without delving deeper, the old sayin…of any
publicity, even ugly (what can qualify any better than war) might help our game become more popular.
Am I being ultra selfish or just somewhat opportunistic?
Hi Bobby,
From this side of the pond, the situation is a nightmare although plenty of ordinary, normal Russians (including one of their top soccer stars) seem appalled by their president’s antics. My hope is that the rise of social media and its ability to bypass some false news (although it can also be used to spread the same) might lead to an internal backlash against Putin and even his removal. Let’s hope so anyway.
Regards,
Iain
Note that Russia waited until AFTER the Olympics …
Hi Iain & Jim2,
At least to me, Putin seems like a six year old child, playing with his Xmas gift of an electric train, basically and totally unaware of all other living creatures, but thinking of ways to derail it and cause havoc.
If so, I hope he doesn’t make it to seven.
And Iain, I do think his own country will become embarrassed enough to (sooner or later) take him down.
Yes, Jim2, China is definitely the country, in the coming years, which could create much more worry, at least with wanting to be number one.
