Hi Everyone,

While the hand themes are often contrived to present definitive winning bridge philosophies, the one above is a good example of why it is never satisfactory to “give up” on a hand, however its low percentage of succeeding.

“Never, Never give up”, especially when there is little or no downside in your attempt.

Calling to mind what should be one’s objective in all phases of attempting to be, the “best player” he or she can be.

Sure, the result will usually follow its percentage success, but the satisfaction in doing so, would, and in most cases, should, rise to the top of the ladder.

After all, we are all playing bridge with the idea of being the best we can be, and often the opponents are good enough, after the hand, to join with one’s partner in judging that effort.

The above layout will see that result, and even once in ten times, or sometimes often needing to illicit a defensive error is necessary, which also does happen.

“Go For It” and the bridge world, as well as yourself and with great joy, will remember, albeit with different states of mind, what happened.

Hi Bobby,

Perhaps the lesson should be “If you clutch at enough straws you can build a raft”.
