Hi Dear Mr Wolff
Quite an interesting hand. Declarer played very well . Only thing is in the three card ending, when west bared spade A declarer could have been magnanimous in leading spade K for west to have satisfaction of capturing K with A instead of J!
However It appears that the contract is unbeatable irrespective of lead. On A of spade lead and shift, declarer has necessary entries for establishing and cashing clubs and need not even finesse diamond ten. It is irrespective who holds it as long as trumps are two two. On A of spades and spade continuation, declarer plays as in column line , declarer finesses diamond J for cashing clubs and on a trump lead, south wins, cashes club A, and hearts position intact, establishes and runs clubs pitching both heart losers , comes to A of heart and leads towards spade K. Club lead also is equally hopeless for defense. If only east held that diamond J
Bidding and making such contracts at the table certainly generates quite a bit of euphoria
Regards

Hi AVRR,

Yes, an exciting hand, made possible by South’s incredible overbid of 3 diamonds, when by all intelligent indication looks to me as a classic example (average strength, slight misfit with only a singleton club) of a mere 2 diamond rebid, then either a 2 spade cue bid by North (if not in a GF)
resulting in a 3 heart cue bid by South, both resulting is a final contract of 3NT, definitely not a slam.

Since between you and the column covered the play, we can applaud the result, but still holding back any congratulations for reaching any other contract than 3NT, but the overall magic of merely playing our game may supersede any and all justified criticism.

Oh well, perhaps a not well-earned bidding sequence with good results, but left with a slightly tangy sour taste.
