Hi Bobby,

What if East ducks the first spade. If declarer cashes HAK (perhaps the simplest, hoping for 3-2) he has 2H, 1D and 1C to lose. If he tries ruffing a diamond high then west gets 3 trump tricks (barring an endplay) and a club to boot. Yes West got it wrong at T1 but didn’t East too?

Regards,

Iain

Hi Iain,

Yes and yes, but from a bridge columnist, one needs to seek hands which lend themselves to miss plays.

And unlike baseball, errors, especially by the opponents are grist for the mill, allowing
peripheral subjects to be discussed.

So, one run, one hit, two errors, and no one was left disgraced.

Finally, is that not Cricket?

HI Bobby,

Cricket is generally considered to be the great rainmaking ritual and it is deeply peculiar that England should have invented it as rain stops play. We should have exported it to more drought-ridden countries!

Iain

Hi Iain,

Of course, since it only rains,, instead of bright sunshine such as the Sahara desert, on planned outdoor activities, it becomes the percentage play to prefer to restrict doing, on rainy prone venues. Or is that cricket?

However, the good news benefits the raincoat manufacturers.
