Hi Bobby,
If west had better diamonds sitting over the opening bidder then a trump lead would be clear cut on this auction but isn’t it still worth considering today? The HA did get disproportionately punished though I feel.
Like the quote! H L Mencken was gloriously cynical.
Regards,
Iain
Hi Iain,
No doubt you do not speak with forked tongue and often the hands we receive (from too many sources to list) might sometimes be edited to usually provide both clarity and, more importantly a learning experience.
Therefore, since we constantly need grist for the bridge mill, we do not question what exactly happened, but merely try to pass on to readers the bridge point(s) we think to be valuable.
Consequently, verifying H L Mencken’s poignant quote in at least spades, but, in reality, probably NT!
We do try to be careful not to make any individual bridge player (especially known) of making a gaffe he might not have made, but many times, even if he had.
Sometimes bridge can just be a little too tough to always be right, and, at least in my many years of playing, wish I had many of my both plays and bids back in the cage they belong in.
BTW, FWIW, I agree with you about the opening lead.
