Hi Dear Mr Wolff
While Margi Bourke played very well, east must have surely inserted diamond nine . Now, if declarer wins J leads another diamond to Q in dummy while west discards spade three ( attitude signal leading south up garden path) east can win and push a spade and it is indeed tough decision for declarer. If declarer finesses would go down while hopping up A would bring home the slam as the squeeze on west works. But the decision to play A at T12 would be simpler rather than at T4. And interestingly, if east ducks Q of diamond, declarer can abandon diamonds and prevails by cashing clubs and throwing in west with fourth heart for a spade lead

Hi Bobby, AVRR,

Looking at just the NS hands, where would you like to be? 6C looks tempting but 6N can in some cases cope with a 4-1 club break (e.g. Hearts run) whereas 6C doesn’t. Today, of course, D to the Ace and a ruff soon put paid to the idea that 4-4 fits are always a good idea. IN either case, though, South has to be declarer.

Regards,

Iain
