Hello Bobby
Re BWTA. So presumably a 2S rebid by responder would show invitational strength with 5S and 4 H.
Correct?

Hi Clarksburg,

Playing that sequence as invitational with 5-4 in the majors would be logical, but
without previous discussion. it may lead to a minor misunderstanding.

Hi Clarksburg, Bobby,

The alternative meaning is that 1N – 2C – 2D – 2S is weak with 5S and 4H of course. If 2S is invitational, what do we do with such a hand as transferring would risk losing a 4-4 (or even 5-4 on occasion) H fit and playing in a 5-2 spade fit instead. Life gets complicated!

Regards,

Iain

Hi Iain,

No doubt, I know this post is belated, but I hope it is worth contributing.

Yes, life sometimes becomes complicated in bridge, especially when we stray from
having an automatic way to substantiate a bidding sequence and protect both of
us from a misunderstanding.

However, always being an optimist, methnks that by subjecting ourselves to those inconveniencies, it increases, not the opposite way, our enjoyment of the innovation a solid and practiced partnership needs to practice.

A possible favorable side product may emerge, the ability to have the partnership brains come together when such bidding complication emerges, which, in turn will increase the partnership confidence for later jousts. Jut sayin….
