Hi Bobby, Folks,

Just a quick query – have I seemed a bit terse or stressed with posts in the last 4 weeks? I’ve been doing “SOBER OCTOBER” for charity and am hating the whole business with an absolute passion, good cause or not.

Just asking….

Regards,

Iain

Iain, thank you for being part of this blog most days, I think I speak for many, your contributions are very well received, and not too terse, usually spot on, insightful and enjoyable! As for sober October, over soon enough. Cheers!

Hi Joe1,

Thanks for the encouragement – I’m now crossing off the hours not just the days!

Regards,

Iain

Hi Iain & Joe1,

Just now escaped to yesterday’s column and have now read the above.

While far from an expert (or close) on the following and so many other subjects, I have fairly recently taken up good red wine as a habit around late afternoon and early evening.

Have been more than pleased with its results, feeling cared for, more calm, and
ready to accept both good news and bad with reasonably good cheer.

However, by such admissions and in no way am I suggesting that others will do likewise, but only that it has (I think) worked for me as it might for others. Perhaps the fact that I limit the amount (1 1/2 average size wine glasses per evening and before dinner) could act as protection against overdoing, but keep in mind that
in no way am I even an adequate judge for me or certainly others, but, at least for now, I wouldn’t think of changing course.

And as a final statement, I still prefer 4 card majors (instead of the crutch of 5)
which, at least to me, has proven that wine HAS NOT caused me to have completely lost my senses. Of course, with the above, I also like a forcing club to accompany.

Hi Bobby,

As the old saying goes, a little of what you fancy does you good. Cheers!
