Hi Bobby,

Fine play as ever by Rosenberg but I just found this and would be interested on your views (subject to legal constraints of course and also don’t let your blood pressure soar):

I’ve heard of the guy I think (I’m not really following tournament play nowadays, even in the UK) but he seems to have got off lightly.

Iain

Hi Iain,

Yes I know him and it is a great surprise to find this out, since he is a good player and (at least to my knowledge) very well liked.

No doubt, with professional bridge popular, it becomes just too tempting for good players, but likely not great, to fall for this absolutely horrible
decision to cheat. Obviously if that temptation triumphs, we will be left with no game at all.

No doubt he got off lightly, but the fact that you are many miles and an ocean away, but still heard about this, indicating whatever sentence he did get
is not just chicken soup.

A famous sports figure, possibly Leo Durocher, a long ago baseball manager in the USA, once said that “nice guys finish last” so perhaps the news you uncovered is a good start for him to contemplate.

Hi Bobby,

Leo was wrong though – look at Usain Bolt for example and yourself, while Zia Mahmood has impeccable manners.

Iain

Hi Iain,

Maybe, maybe not, Usain could always run away from it, and I could bridge it, but Zia would learn to love it and I do not mean figurative.
