Hi Bobby,
Another small extra chance with playing the CA and CQ is that clubs might be 4-1 with a singleton King out there. To be fair, this does look less clever if East has CK10xx after a H lead when there are 4D, 3C via two finesses, a heart and a spade. 3-2 C plus the small extra chance of a singleton King offside is more likely than East having the CK though (ignoring a singleton K when anything works).
Also, after East takes the 2nd spade, does a diamond now still mess things up for declarer? I think it might, especially as the heart suit is frozen. Declarer can set up an extra spade trick but has 4D, 2C, 2S and that’s it.
Many thanks for all the hands in 2022 and all the very best to you, Judy, contributors and readers for 2023.
Regards,
Iain
