Hi Bobby,
Isn’t 3N over 1H a more practical bid as South’s first bid today. The D switch worked well, stealing a fast trick, but on another day TOCM would give declarer solid diamonds and CAxx although West might have considered a club lead form KQ10xx.
Regards,
Iain
Hi Iain,
Your description was a tiny trifle confusing, but you got your excellent point across.
I do not, nor would not, start the play as the opening leader, with anything but my 4th highest heart and, if holding three small (sans the jack or higher) the highest one. However, while holding only 4 hearts as East, he then becomes the central
figure in finding a winning defense.
While an immediate leap to 3NT by South on his first bid, would probably be judged as excess, a wrong shaped double probably would win the nod on an expert laden panel, although with this unfavorable vulnerability and years ago, B. J Becker would
likely chirp 3 clubs to which in those years, was about what this hand suggested.
As is often the case, sound logic by the defense should lead EW, at trick two to the winning decision.
As always, thanks for your time spent in leading the discussion.
