Hi Dear Mr Wolff
Once east wins club K and returns trump, perhaps south could have embarked on a simple dummy reversal too . For e.g. he wins second trump in dummy , pitches spade on a winning club, ruffs low club making clubs good , leads A and K of spades, ruffs spade, A of hearts , heart ruff, draw trump and claim.
Regards

Hi AVRR,

Thank you for your alternate successful line
of play, but should it be called a dummy reversal, when both hands started out with the same number of trump?

No doubt your order of play allowed the dummy to draw trump, but would you say that feature is the calling card for one, or instead only when the dummy starts out with the lesser number of trump, but emerges as the trump king.

I know, only details, but what if they asked that question on “Jeopardy”? (Not a good chance they would, but I technically agree with you calling it that).

What say you?

Icalled it as dummy reversal as hand takes ruffs retaining trumps in dummy as I had this concept of whenever hand takes ruffs shortening trumps relative to dummy, it is dummy reversal . But after your mention, I googled and still not clear as most of the times it is mentioned that dummy starts with less number of trumps than hand and hand takes ruffs but there is an illustration where even starting with equal trumps, hand takes ruffs and is termed dummy reversal: https://www.bridgehands.com/D/Dummy_Reversal.htm. But out of four or five illustrations, only in this case NS start with equal trumps and every other case, south i.e. declarer starts with more trumps. Though technically there is some ambiguity, perhaps this is an isolated case and with your wisdom , dummy starts with fewer trumps than hand in what is strictly termed dummy reversal. This indeed is a revelation and time I change my concept.
Thanks and regards

Hi AVRR,

There is a song with the lyrics, at some stage,”Don’t change a hair for me, not if you care for me” and while I appreciate your respect, my interest, for the most part was intended to allow others to partake of the sophisticated bridge history regarding well known lingo widely popular with bridge writers. Nothing important, just window dressing.
