Hi Bobby,

Any case for the SJ at T2? West might doze off with Axx(x) or similar. He/she might also be hoping East can win and stick a diamond through declarer’s possible Q.

On BWTA, another reason for avoiding the D lead is that there might not be a hurry. Declarer will surely lose the lead at least once or twice so there isn’t the same concern here as if the opponents were in a higher level contract with tricks to burn if you go passive.

Regards,

Iain

Hi again,

What was North doing missing the chance to hog the hand by bidding a stone cold 3N here, though? 20-20 hindsight strikes again of course, while South is hardly guaranteed to hold such good clubs, but I wonder what computer simulations would tell us about the relative results of 3N and 4H just looking at the North hand and considering different options for the other 3 given that South has a hand worth the jump rebid.

Regards,

Iain

Hi Iain,

Before some of those difficult percentage figures cloud up the questioning, many otherwise not strictly numerical figures need to appear, such as caliber of opponents, their habits and experience, as well as their pace of defense, plus, of course, the full bidding and your take on what significant pauses may mean.
