Hi Bobby,

One point here is that East should know NOT to cover the DJ due to the presence of the D9. If south had (say) DA10xx(x) and tried to pull a fast one opposite Jxx then covering is right. The D9 is a dead giveaway, though, especially as South might be trying it on with DA8xxx opposite DJ9x when there will be pain from West as his K10 alone no longer pull their weight.

Correction – covering is right with Qxx if dummy has DJxx and declarer has A10xx with pard holding K98 or even K9x. If declarer holds A108xx and partner holds DK9 alone, there isn’t much you can do if declarer gets it right by leading the J.
