Hi Bobby,

In BWTA, if partner responds to 3S with 3NT, would you venture 4D to let him know there might be more while leaving 4S on the table?

Hi Jeff,

Yes, and if partner now basically sold out with 4 spades, I’d raise to 5 and allow partner to make the next mistake.

Seriously, while the queen of spades is essentially duplication, partner didn’t have it and still made a slam try and caught me with a super maximum. Thus I would definitely make another slam suggestion, rather than just go quietly.

Of course, it may depend on who one’s partner is, and what his tendencies are (optimistic or not so), but I do think the hand shown is worth another attempt to get to an excellent slam.

BTW, better to judge good and bad slams as making or not rather than how to handle the bidding. While I’m sort of kidding, I’m really not!
