Hi Bobby,
If North had splintered in spades, South’s hand looks good but I would have been put off by the diamond splinter, at least to some extent, especially with the misfit in clubs. Can’t argue with success although if East had held a small spade singleton, things might not have gone so well.

Hi Iain,
You, more than many other players, often (at least to my knowledge) appear to be, at the very least, to take optimistic views in both the bidding and the play, which to me, especially when they work, am usually in favor of taking that risk.
Being “put off” is one description, but just “doing it” is another, to which the declarer followed through.
Appreciated your comment about not having gone so well, since that was at the very least, a very conservative way of toning down a relatively disastrous result, “down in slam”!
