If South is relying on 3-2 diamonds with the defence unable to take more than 3 club tricks, he might as well cash the other top spade before ducking a diamond. Saves a lot of trouble!

Yes, whatever seems to be needed with details involved, and no doubt, the way of a winning declarer, not an otherwise careless one.
