Hi Bobby,
It wouldn’t (well shouldn’t) work at this level but declarer down where I play could try the DQ at T1 dropping the Jack. Costs nothing to try and increases the chances of EW doing something silly. Playing standard signals East should just show length here but …
Regards,
Iain
Hi Dear Mr Wolff
But declarer might as well finesse east for club J at T2. Even if west wins, diamond return assures a third trick and on a spade return, south wins and knocks out club A. Best for west is to return a heart but south carefully wins in hand and knocks out club A. But today the finesse wins and south can take easy eleven tricks by playing spade Q from hand. Looks too simple. Perhaps I am missing something

Playing to spade Q

Hi AVRR,
Like it! Saves a lot of trouble and the Diamond ploy I mentioned at T1 could still work.
Regards,
Iain
Hi Iain & AVRR,
You two are having a not so little, bridge party of your own, but not inviting your friends. The least you can do is split your winnings, if, in fact you were playing money bridge instead of tournament, since only you two can rejoice with your superior play choices.
I sometimes forget the prize for winning bridge tournaments in America, until
one day I heard an American player offering to pay his dinner check with masterpoints.
