A textbook hand for Slobbovian Super Flannery.

(Played both sides of the the border, so no “Lower” or “Upper”)

Hi Jim 2,

“Flannery will get you everywhere”! Except possibly to middle Slobbovia.

North misread South’s 3 club bid. He meant it as a diamond cue bid since any hand wants to be someone. And besides when we sometimes talk about 4-4 trump fits producing an extra trick over 5-4 fits, North, but not partner, thought numbers not trumps, but possibly the old phrase, “How much wood could a wood chuck, chuck, if a wood chuck, could chuck, wood” (say it as fast as you can.), probably should have cautioned him.

Hi everyone,

Yes, the North-South hand may have a game opposite that ace, but to bid on that possibility, with those 13 cards and that distribution, makes “gilding the lily” a decided underbid.

Hi Bobby,

Presumably 4H goes off if West leads a club to the K, a spade comes back (ducked) and the defence now find their spade ruff plus the top club. A little optimistic, especially as South should read East as not having the SQ or he could be blowing a trick here via such a switch. Even Deep Finesse won’t allow that as it’ll make declarer play the SK and draw trumps .

Regards,

Iain
