Hi Bobby,

Today’s LWTA shows that the principle behind TOCM can afflict all of us – it is very easy to construct hands where anything could be right (or wrong for that matter). Give partner HJx, Ax in front of declarer’s KJxx or EVEN Kx and a trump might be right double dummy although nobody will find it at the table.

Regards,

Iain

Hi Iain,

And having to make dangerous opening leads (including a small doubleton) are almost never pleasant while at the bridge table, even the thought of them can be traumatic.

However, to even consider a trump lead while holding Q109 (not that you were in favor), is IMO beyond consideration. However, and perhaps because it is so difficult, to construct ways to ever prove one’s life long bridge beliefs, might make listening a greater attribute than explaining. However, at least for the next short 500 years I doubt seriously that leading a trump from that thirteen card holding is a winning percentage.

At least after reincarnation, around 2823 AD I, you, (and others), may learn differently,
hopefully, enabling us to talk, (be flabbergasted,) but otherwise enjoy it, then.

Hi again Iain,

And never forget, if dummy includes high honor jack and two others, declarer will surely guess not to play the dummy’s jack on either of the two first leads of the suit, starting with the opening lead. By George, you, like Christopher Columbus, have discovered a land to which it has, at least at one time, been great.
