I sat East when this hand was dealt in the 2015 Slush Cup.
At our table, South was in SIX Spades doubled.
I led the QH, as in the column hand, and declarer led a small diamond with my partner making the fatal mistake of winning with the 10D. I couldn’t blame her, because I full well knew that if I had played the 7D with her hand, South would have had the 9D singleton.
Anyway, pard played back her trump, fearing I might have 7 hearts for my bidding. Declarer won on the Board and advanced the KD and later the JD and now had TWO club pitches.
That’s the way things things all to often proceed for me.

Nicely done, Jim2. Of course, if you were sitting as declarer in this line, East would smoothly duck either the KD or (maybe more deviously), the JD and leave the rest to TOCM ™.

Hi Jim2,
Was it something you did wrong in a past life or was it this one (which caused the curse of TOCM)? Did you burn down a casino or blow up a riverboat full of churchgoing card players in a 19th century incarnation, for example?

Hi Jim2,
Your fate would be about the same, if and when the AQx of diamonds started with West, but her religion demanded, if and when one ever attempts bridge, their burden would always be if holding a queen and opponents reaching a small slam, one must lead from it (even if it is the trump suit) and while West was looking at the AQx in diamonds he or she also held the club
queen. An addendum also required “if holding more than one damsel, lead the lowest ranked”. Down you went, a victim of clubuphobia, the disease that bromide produced.
Likely the first scene some of us will feel, once we are treated to the honor of being immediately invited to the devil’s bridge table.
