Hi Dear Mr Wolff
A Very Happy Christmas to you, Judy and all bloggers
And superb defense by east. Not only he correctly shifted to clubs and also discarded club J on the run of diamonds to weave a web of deception. Lesson tempo even once would have allowed south to make the contract
Regards
Loss of tempo not lesson please ( auro correct again)
Hi Bobby, AVRR, Folks,
Firstly Merry Christmas to everyone. Secondly something odd is happening in clubs surely – why did East switch to a small club from QJ9x as South assumed or QJ9xx as he really holds when the CQ seems more sensible? Mind you, I suspect the play would pan out the same in either case so credit to East here.
Regards,
Iain
Hi AVRR & Iain,
First of course is to wish both of you and those nearest and dearest a grand holiday as well
as a healthy and continued happy great year ahead, blessed with no wars, good health, positive relationships and (are you listening Jim2?) finesses and suits breaking, which work at all the right times.
To me. this hand is a great description of the deceptive tactics which tend to separate the very finest players in the world from the ones who are just about on a par with them (sensible bidding system, total concentration, very high level experience, and handling the pressure, which is built-in). Allowing nothing easily done against them, and feeling totally drained after playing against him (usually) but possibly also her in the near future.
There is almost always a percentage correct bid to be made or a specific card to be played and IMO, no one has yet risen to that level, but, if almost all cheating is completely stopped,
in a couple of lifetimes from now, our beloved game may achieve such a person (if someone, somewhere can lead us to that nirvana and I have secretly prayed for, both that, and no letup with many joining together in trying to achieve it).
Merry Christmas, Bobby, to you and yours, and to all of “our gang” here!
Talk about gifts, today one of my finesses even worked!
(They only told me afterwards that they had replaced the missing honor with a second deuce from another deck, but it’s the thought that counts!)
Hope everyone is having a pleasant holiday.
Bob
Hi Bobby and everyone here, Merry Christmas and let’s go forward together with this game of Bridge. There is just a lot of joy to be had through playing it. Cheers Patrick
Hi Bobby, What happens if South ducks the second club and East overtakes and plays a third club..would that ‘show up’ West’s shape and forces declarer to drop the QS,after running the diamonds?
Hi Patrick,
It wouldn’t force him to, but he certainly would consider doing it, if he didn’t think the original spade lead (the lead of the 10) was a “forget”!
