Hi Dear Mr Wolff
Excellent defense by Mike but he also must be thankful that he held nine of clubs instead of declarer else all his efforts would have gone in vain as it would be simple inference to declarer that West holds K of clubs once east shows up with pointed Queens. The ruffing finesse would provide the tenth trick

Hi Bobby,

Brilliant defense by West. A very subtle difference in that by inducing South to lead a second heart. the ruff-sluff loses it power as South can now only ruff clubs once. Pity the poor declarer though – he may well have smelled a rat, but what could he do? Caught between a rock and a hard place.

This strikes me as one of those plays that in addition to understanding exactly what is needed also require a wonderful table presence. Appear to be going through the motions of a doomed defense, but without overselling it.

Cheers,

Jeff

Hi AVRR & Jeff,

Both of your posts show emphatically just how much both of you, appreciate bridge excellence. For all of our readers to enjoy your comments, is well worth the time for
our site to carry forth the beauty to which high-level bridge can rise, when players, who, like Superman, have learned to jump tall buildings.

Without your speaking out, sure, the reading of good bridge will still be somewhat appreciated, but the time you both spend analyzing and thus commenting, become the icing on the cake.

All I can do is say a large thanks to both of you, with a very happy nod to the game we all love to play.
