Hi Bobby,
On Working Cards’ query, is it worth noting that Kx Qxxxx xxxx Ax is rather better, a point made by Jeff Rubens many years ago in Secrets of Winning Bridge In the column hand, the CKx might or might not be worth something. SKx opposite a hand with 5+ spades will almost certainly be worth something unless partner has (say) S10xxxx and the SAQ or similar are offside. Even opposite J9xxx the SK contributes hugely.
Points, schmointz I suppose is the lesson here
Regards,
Iain
Hi Iain,
While both you and Jeff are tough acts to follow, when discussing general evaluations
of varied holdings (as well, of course, as beaucoup many other features) but everyone listening should realize that many, while at the table, judgment decisions, sometimes are, or should be, be guessed only after the bidding and or early play, together with always keeping in mind that all players, worthy of being included, require the experience of, at the very least, a “been there, done that, mentality.
To that, please include the human element of guessing what the tempo, at that table, has told us, if anything, what a possible break in such, might imply, depending on the player who is in the limelight.
IOW, allow fate to determine who belongs there, and in what order, with that itself a difficult chore to read through the glow of the limelight shining on it. IOW, you “Not I”, said the wolf, “nor me”, echoed the robin.
The only answer I do think applies, is the basic impossibility, in spite of, today’s world
showing great opportunities to delve deeply into the statistics necessary, to find accurate answers. But, if so, I would continue to think that bridge would be among the toughest
test to challenge the game itself, with consistent accurate assessments.
However that IMO, would apply only, when strength meets strength,
HI Bobby,
Thanks for that but Monday’s gremlin has struck again. I’ll give it a little while then E-Mail Sally Sparrow.
Iain
Hi Iain,
Much obliged, and, of course, a SPECIAL THANK YOU for doing much more than I,
while always doing the irritating forward necessities. I’ve lost sight of what is going
on, only that what you continue to accomplish, has become decidedly the reason
our small group (but possibly even much larger than I realize) is still existing.
Perhaps you might, if you think intelligent to do, ask Sally what I, or we, can do to help.
E-mail sent, hopefully not long…
