Hi Bobby,
An extra question from last week. Pairs, Love All, and a rare foray into precision club. Pard opens 1S (11-15, 5 or more spades for anyone not familiar) and I held xx x Q10x AJxxxxx. I decided to try to play in 3C via a forcing 1N but in retrospect think passing 1S would have made more sense. Any thoughts?
Regards
Iain
Hi Iain,
No, I think bidding 1NT forcing or not, is clearly the right response, with the idea of bidding clubs through the 3 level, next round. Sure it could be right
to pass, but, if so, the submitter of this problem wound up missing the club slam by stopping only at the two black suit games. Partner’s hand was: s. AKxxxx Qxx, A, Kxx, but passing would sadly have bought the 1S contract.
A ggod hand for pre-emptive jump responses.
Sorry Iain,
I didn’t hear you say playing Precision, so passing could be OK, but I still favor the offbeat
1NT as a response. You either need to bid louder, but if not, please change your forcing bids to NF. We used to play the louder we bid, the less we had, until the TD was called and then
we said our opponents are lying. It did work for a while
HI Bobby,
I bid 1N but found partner with a 5-4-4-0 11 count and the C were KQ10x sitting over me. Not a success!
Regards,
Iain
