Hi Bobby,
The column hand shows a very old-fashioned approach to bidding although N has an obvious 4S bid given the interpretation. If I weren’t going to bash 4S (which I would), then 3H or 3C seems more sensible playing long suit trial bids or 3D if playing short-suit equivalent although then North might turn the invitation down. Maybe we’re all playing too much pairs where 1S 2S 3S is designed to stop the oppos balancing and might well be quite a poor but shapely hand?
I like the play though – East can’t see South’s hand so even with (say) A10x(x) has to decide if South might have K alone or similar.
