This hand seems to have been adapted from the 2004 Slush Cup. The difference was that North had passed as dealer.

I held the South hand and knew full well that TOCM ™ or defender accidents would NEVER let me make any contract, let alone 2H.

So I passed 2D, hoping to foil Fate.

Can you blame East for leading a small club?

Hi Jim2,

Your comment reminded me of a hand where I had a 5-4-1-3 11 count with a stiff DK opposite a 12-14 1NT. I bid 2C, partner bid 2D and RHO doubled. I redoubles to make him talk and that ended the auction. He had a decent 13 count with DQ109xx so made game in an interesting way, and the more normal efforts (3N, 4S) fail.

Regards,

Iain

Hi Jim2,

Thoroughly understandable for you to fight for a plus score, especially considering your trump support. One needs, especially thou, to be alert to random chances to score it
up, when the heavens (earth too and all intangibles) are so dedicated to rain on your
bridge parades.

Never thought you’d ever find out, but your friend I, was there, playing with the lovely Lena, no less (hate to use that word for fear of her miss interpreting) and with mental telepathy
(learned through the many years) was able to seek and find (only occasionally) our match.

Also I hate to, but will confess in also playing a part with your RHO leading a club. Yes the scorers in that tournament were surprised to award you 75% on that hand for going plus, but even them admit to “well thought, thus well earned”.

Hi Iain,

You indeed, probably have experienced the most column worthy bridge spectacles, perhaps
in how long its been since first auction than contract bridge appeared, taking over a flurry
of lives, not exactly felt at the time, but what since has developed is undeniable in difficulty,
excitement, originality, and just plain fun to which so many of us have totally capitulated.

To prove such a history would only take its participants (real not just imagined) a small flurry of time to use glowing adjectives for description. Now, especially after 100% eliminating the scourge of cheating (not much chance of doing, but serving greater penalties, both in present and past obvious cases, might be the proper way to go about it. Good wishes to all those duty bound to use every extreme to not ever let the urge down with doing everything possible to get that job done!
fully justify our off-the-charts-great game forever!. Great luck in so accomplishing!!!!

Iain –

Noice! 🙂

Hi Bobby, Jim2,

Thanks for that although note that not all European women called Lena are like the infamous proverbial hyena – I know a very charming (and very tall) musician who was originally German, now dual nationality with British, but sadly she’s not interested in bridge. Look up a band called “The Dolmen” who are based in Weymouth.

Iain

Hi Iain,

Yes, that tall German Lena no hyena in looks, but no one was meana and in shame she was seena, even worse than a bad dreama, as well as a twit when she embellished her Brit. Strong personality to follow, especially her grit. when others took her hit and cause for alarm when looking for charm.but find only harm, well, darn.

The above could be worse if I signed someone else, wrote the verse.
