In a lighter vein, perhaps EW deserve to be presented an award for the creative defense for declarer to make his contract !

Hi AVRR,
No doubt everyone needs some kind of status. In the cause and case of EW, all they were doing, at least in their slightly confused minds, was helping a side win. Possibly no one, especially NS, had told their opponents, EW, whom to befriend.
Yes and likely almost all of us, we and others, have, at some not so a magical time, encountered such a pair. Strangely, if EW would now pay attention to what happened,
this situation would turn into a great learning experience, but DO NOT count on that to happen.
