HI Bobby,

If West ducks the spade queen in the middle game and South reads things right, he can ruff a spade dropping the queen then play CK, ruff a club, cash the S10 and then safely play a D to the Ace for the overtrick.

To what extent is your recommended line best at pairs as well as IMPs do you think? Sometimes taking the best chance of a plus score still looks the best shot, even at pairs.

Regards,

Iain

Hi Iain,

No doubt I agree with your last sentence, although the other extreme would probably
be considered, in a highly mathematical world, the right percentage choice.

Something about the human condition always rooting for securing the contract, will
allow echoes to reverberate within. Take ones choice and go with what partner chooses,
will keep a partner (at least as a friend) so enter that in determining. Whatever, but take a safety play, which, in this case, has nothing to do with your choice, but if unsuccessful,
keep one’s mouth shut with not explaining to a bemused person across the table, or has he already disappeared from view.
