HI Barry, Folks,

Is this called “echelon play” i.e. combining chances but they have to be done in the right order? Taking the spade finesse first would clearly fail as the cards lie but the result of the D finesse tells you whether you can afford the safety play in spades. Useful and instructive hand especially if you’ve something similar before it comes up at the table.

Regards,

Iain

Hi Iain,

If I were King, you would likely be chosen by me (Trump only wants to be Pope), to provide
the names to all the superlative plays, which seem to lurk behind closed hands of well spoken and learned bridge experts.

My then only comment probably then would be, Iain not only knows direction, bridge dynamics, and all the difficult coups which blend, but also how to add luster to the thrills
so apparent to ones who take the time and effort to learn much about what I have always thought no doubt, offering the player a game which surely ranks among the best ever, but also demands the consummate knowledge that Barry & company supply, day after day.

HI Bobby,

Thanks for that – far too flattering and kind as usual!
