Love the play. I knew something sneaky had to be done. What percentage would take this line (Hideous Hog would have found it- the master of bringing in NT with an open suit) and how many defenders would have taken diamond A at trick 2 followed by spades (would smell a rat against HH or similar)?
I cannot understand the result at the other table. With North as declarer in 1 NT, why would East even think of any other lead than a small spade? After taking five spade tricks, East-West can hardly avoid making the ace of diamonds as well. So unless something very odd happens, declarer gets seven tricks, not nine.
