With 2S being a ‘free” bid, made voluntarly, doesn’t it show an invitational hand?
With 4 spades and a bust, I would pass.

Hi Avi,
Obviously you are referring to the BWTA hand and yes, 2 spades shows a middlin.. type hand, but not usually an invitation to game.
Even a jump to three spades would not be forcing, but only the invitation you suggest. Your hand is better than the 8 points many would suggest South showed, but not enough to go directly to game, only enough to invite.
IOW, you need to move your calibrator one step down in order to conform to today”s expectations.
BTW I, too, would pass with 4 spades and a bust, but would still bid 2 spades freely with the same hand and distribution, minus one of the aces.
