Hi Bobby,

Might you please provide a reference for your suggested actions over the 2C cue bid. I had learned years ago to bid the lower of their two known suits to make a limit raise or better in the lower of the other two suits, and bid the higher of their two suits to show a limit raise or better in the higher of the other two suits.

THANKS.

Hi Steve,

First, glad to hear from you, welcome to your return, and don’t be a stranger.

My guess and feel will regard your learned current method is at least on a par with the column’s suggestion, offering a similar choice to what must be a close and not worrisome difference.

Possibly similar to some who like chocolate and others vanilla, but perhaps strawberry will soon appear and win the day.

I do not have a reference for the method preferred on today’s hand, but my guess is pretty close to even money as to which convention works best, and will fall into the abyss of sheer chance, when, and if, it happens.

IOW, not worth wasting time on what appears to likely occur as often as moons are blue, making the one your partnership has learned, not worth unlearning, if for no other reason, then, the ability for a bridge partnership to stave off disasters, far exceeds the small disadvantage of any close choice.

Preparing for our next quotation, “Be sure, rather than fly to others that we know not of, or may forget (it only takes once)”, especially since the same confident wave length with partner, IMO, represents 99% of the reason for choice.

However, good luck and thanks for saying hello.
