BTW, Our Host actually DID try to bid eight in one match. 🙂

Hi Jim2,

That is only partly true, since it was in answer to a question from the audience and at my age (even then), I can always plead forget fullness therefore my answer was 8 clubs.

When asked the result, I, of course, relayed the truth of that particular South then bidding on to 8 spades, and when asked me why, by some knowledgeable soul, probably afraid that 8 clubs might make, as it may in today’s column.

Like today’s politics, it helps to have friends like
a chief tournament director.

BTW, we did set 8 spades, but didn’t double like we should have, since he was a very good player and always knew what he was doing.

Doubtless it was total points, both sides white, with 150 honors.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for joining in.

With the serious damage causing both change and damage to our beloved game with the awful continuing and distancing effect of the Pandemic and, of course, what to do about cheating, it can be, at least soothing to the emotions, to turn to hoped for humor, although even that interruption may be just too slapstick for many.

Anyway, we can try and hope to find our way back to what so many of us depend on, for our favorite and glorious habit.
