Is West not better off to start diamonds on this auction? (although as you said in the text declarer might have three small spades)

Hi Mircea,
At least to me, the combination of my hand (West) and the bidding, suggests a spade lead, making me happy to oblige since it is also my best suit.
North started out with a one diamond opening bid, and although that could be relatively short, his next bid was a club raise, certainly prepared to be taken back into playable diamonds.
However, opening leads are only educated guesses, but even with that as a backdrop, at least to me, the spade lead easily looks like the right choice.
