I assume the 2N query today asks for 3as with minimum, 4S with max, 3N with AKQxxx and a feature if intermediate. I’ve always though this was a good scheme though many prefer Ogist with codified replies for min / max points and suit quality. Which do you prefer?

First requirement lends itself to any one of the ones you mention, but the one to which both partners are comfortable remembering.
At least to me, almost all choices have pluses and minuses, making the choice the one to which the fewer forgets will occur.
I guess the mantra for choosing includes the higher the bid, the less room for slam invitations so that a jump to game might be the weakest hand (if, in fact the partnership-has already committed to at least, game).
Sorry for not having a real opinion, but also choosing the method to which both partners have become familiar, might be a good start.
