Hi Bobby,
The ramifications in the heart suit make my head hurt as Jim2 would say. They remind me of Kelsey and Ottlik’s Adventures in Card Play.

Hi Dear Mr Wolff
Bridge is as paradoxical as life. But perhaps east cunningly returns club at T3, if declarer takes the ruff in dummy, there’s no way he can make the hand and even being farsighted, ruffs in hand, the play transposes to column line as declarer doesn’t have a quick entry to hand for drawing trumps and manoeuvre hearts. If only trumps broke 3-1, declarer retains trump control

Hi Iain & AVRR,
My guess is that most bridge columns which qualify as you two describe, both head hurting and paradoxical are the result of a vivid imagination, but occasionally they are dealt, and (the difficult part) are either played or misplayed but still almost as newsworthy.
No doubt all being great learning experiences and quite often a door opener to some players who, upon loving the necessary thinking, then take off in a career of good to even superior bridge, brought on by that initial discovery.
