Hi Bobby,

Declarer would have no chance against a weak player here (although they wouldn’t be playing in the trials). DA, DK, D ruff and the HK is an unavoidable 1 off. That old adage (“getting the opening lead right making you an almost unbeatable opponent” strikes again).

On LWTA, if the Hearts were better (e.g. HK109x) would you still risk a heart and, if so, which one? Leading the K to pin declarer’s possible HQ or J is an option although looks less clever if declarer has HA alone or dummy turns up with AQJx(x)

Hi Iain,

Some bridge player, I don’t remember who, once commented. “If almost any bridge player would get off to the right opening lead (right, meaning effective)” every time, he would win every World Bridge championship.

Whether that prediction is true or not, the point of being incredibly important is more than likely, true.
