Hi Bobby,

On BWTA, Terence Reese made a similar point in a biddign problem in “Practical Bidding and Practical Play” many years ago. He also pointed out that the argument “But it’ll stop a club lead” was fatuous – you weren’t going to get one anyway. I suppose TBF LHO might have a singleton but it has to be right to help partner like this.

Regards,

Iain

Hi Iain,

You and no doubt, Terence Reese, make the same practical points, about two opposites in one respect, helping partner bid and another, allowing those pesky opponents more information about opening leads and later, declarer’s original thirteen.

Result IMO, about the same, but somewhat dependent on the bridge acumen of your then opponents and, of course, the normal bidding
judgment of your current partner.

As usual, you tend to always go straight to the point about back and forth thoughts turning into actions, but, while at the table, becomes a plus factor for better judgment in the not so distant future. Particularly so, with increasing your partnership harmony.
